“The initiative of magnitude” of the president, expected without much enthusiasm by the macronists

We’ll see what we’ll see! Thursday, in a magazine interview Point, Emmanuel Macron must present what he himself announced as being his “major initiative” for the start of the school year. The president dropped few clues about his intentions when he first spoke about it in early August in Le Figaro Magazine. The macronists themselves are a little disconcerted: “It remains completely abstract for many of us”, confides a ministerial adviser returning from vacation. “I admit that I don’t know what it is,” concedes MoDem deputy from Finistère, Erwan Balanant.

Result: before the interview, the supporters of the President of the Republic whom we contacted expressed cautious expectations. “It is important on the eve of important legislative deadlines to take stock with the parties of the Republican arc”, advance without getting wet the deputy Renaissance (RE) of Val-de-Marne, Mathieu Lefèvre. For him, the first objective is once again to try to enlarge the majority, if not permanently, at least with a view to certain major issues to come, such as the budget. “I understand that the oppositions cannot vote for, but some could at least abstain”, believes the elected representative from the Ile-de-France, shocked by the clear refusal of all the oppositions last year “before even having read a line from the budget ! “. The law of ecological programming could also integrate ideas of the opposition, imagines Lefèvre.

” Dreaming… “

“It will be, I imagine, a new form of outstretched hand to the opposition”, predicts another deputy from the Ile-de-France region. In short, take control of what Elisabeth Borne has almost never managed to do in more than a year? “I think that the opposition will no longer be able to hide, that it is more difficult to lie in the office of the president”, assures Mathieu Lefèvre. “Maybe, but the president is even more criticized than the Prime Minister. It’s still a bit of a headache, ”warns the adviser already quoted. “In the end, politics is all the same to improve people’s lives, and we won’t be able to do it if we don’t get along”, slice, more optimistically, the Ile-de-France MP.

“The president will not be able to do everything alone”, judges for his part the MoDem deputy, Erwan Balanant, whose shopping list weighs a little more. “Dreaming, I tell myself that it could be the moment of the great ecological and social shift”, imagines the Breton. This initiative cannot ignore a “redefinition of the French project”, which for him is lacking. According to him, the presidential and legislative campaigns of 2022 have not really taken place: “The political contract has not been redefined, it is time to do so. With therefore, “a green turn on investment” and on the social aspect, the school package “whose model has proven itself, but which needs to move forward”.

Some were also surprised to see the president teasing this “major initiative” in the middle of summer. A bit like the launch of the National Refoundation Councils (CNR), just a year ago, a big thing supposed to create consensus on several given subjects. The results are very mixed. “I still see a President of the Republic a little out of breath who is trying to restart the machine as best he can,” analyzes a ministerial adviser quoted earlier. After six years in office, does the principle of “you will see what you will see” still have some effect on the population? “I’m not sure that the announcement of the ‘scale initiative’ really broke the sound barrier, he tries to reassure himself. We will be the only ones disappointed, we are used to announcements without a future. »
