the Indomitable Lions are already doing very well

A refreshing break

The referee grants a cool break to both teams. No goal after half an hour but a warning for the Indomitable Lions with Ajayi’s disallowed goal at the start of the match.

Aina tries a superb gesture

The Nigerian full-back delights with a shot with the scarf attempted to open the game. His gesture ultimately finds no takers but the initiative was great.

Tolo complains

The Cameroonian left piston attacked Ajayi because he felt that the Super Eagles defender had elbowed again. The referee does not take action.

Nwabali takes the leather

Magri tries to continue after a good serve from Nkoudou but the Toulouse player cannot get into a striking position. His cross finally ended up in the gloves of the Nigerian goalkeeper.

Onyeka does not fall into feinting

Karl Toko-Ekambi tries to eliminate Frank Onyeka but the Nigerian midfielder defends very well and ends up taking the ball. The Super Eagles counter then achieves nothing.

Magri’s volley is off target

Ngamaleu offers a lot in his lane and manages to find Magri in the center but the latter recovers from the shin.

Ngamaleu lacks control

Following a long cross from Ntcham, Ngamaleu fails to control the ball. Nwabali can restart his camp.

Ajayi puts the elbow

The Nigerian defender puts his elbow on Magri’s head but the Toulouse attacker does not get a foul.

The goal is canceled

The Indomitable Lions can breathe! Victor Osimhen was in an offside position and the goal is therefore cancelled.

Nigeria opens the score!

The Super Eagles already break the deadlock with a point-blank strike from Ajayi! The Cameroonian goalkeeper is not exempt from all reproaches.

Osimhen wins with his head

The former Lille man takes the best of the opponent’s area on a touch from Ola Aina but the Cameroonian goalkeeper grabs the ball.

Raymond Domenech in the stands

It’s a familiar face! The former coach of the France team sat in the stands of the Félix Houphouët-Boigny stadium to witness this shock.

Ngamaleu overflows

The right piston makes the difference in its corridor but completely misses its center.

Here we go!

The kick-off of this Nigeria-Cameroon has just been given. A place in the quarter-finals is at stake. The winner of this match will meet Angola.

Both teams return to the pitch

This clash of the round of 16 of CAN 2024 will begin in just over five minutes. The two teams enter the pitch at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny stadium in Abidjan.

A reunion

This is not the first time that Nigeria and Cameroon have met at this stage of the competition. Indeed, the two teams crossed swords in 2019 and the Super Eagles won (3-2).

An almost miraculous qualification for Cameroon

The Indomitable Lions are the miracles of this final phase of CAN 2024. The Cameroonians were eliminated until the 88th minute of their last group match against the Gambia. But Rigobert Song’s men managed to score two goals in five minutes, thus qualifying.

The Nigerian eleven

Nwabali – Ajayi, Troost-Ekong, Bassey – Aina, Onyeka, Iwobi, Sanusi – Simon, Osimhen, Lookman.

The eleven of Cameroon

Onana still on the bench, Aboubakar too

Ondoa – Castelletto, Gonzales, Wooh – Mgamaleu, Ntcham, Zambo Anguissa, Tolo – Toko Ekambi, Magri, Nkoudo

A beautiful poster in perspective

On paper, Cameroon could have benefited from a more affordable opponent by finishing second and not third behind Senegal and Guinea. But there you have it, the many surprises during this CAN contested in Ivory Coast turned everything upside down. Only second in its group behind Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria will therefore find itself on the road to the Cameroonians in the round of 16.

The duel between the five-time Cameroonian winners and the three-time Nigerian champions therefore promises a suspenseful encounter between two nations aiming for the last four.
