The images of the Pilat dune under the snow sublimated by a photographer created a buzz

The snow has changed the landscape on the Arcachon Basin. The photographer Jean-Philippe Bellon, passionate about the Basin, explains on his Facebook page that he could not resist the urge to take some images of the Pilat dune, the highest in Europe, covered in snow this Wednesday January 10. “Exceptional weather” for the basin and one of its most touristy and photogenic sites.

Images of the sand monument covered in white, taken using a drone, were widely shared on social networks and television channels. At this time of year, the staircase facilitating its ascent is closed, but it is possible to get to the top, with a little more effort.

The dune, part of which belongs to the coastal conservatory, is mobile and moves 1 to 5 meters each year inland, mainly following storms and intense winds which move the sand.
