The house of the famous drug trafficker “El Chapo” put into play in the lottery

As part of an operation to finance social programs, the Mexican national lottery put into play, this Wednesday, somewhat special prizes. These are old goods that belonged to drug traffickers. One lot in particular has caught all the attention: the home of one of the most famous drug lords, the Mexican Joaquin Guzman, better known as “El Chapo”, reports The world.

With its two bedrooms and its tiny garden, this house, located in the state of Sinaloa, was only estimated at only 155,000 euros. The estimates of the other lots are indeed much higher. The 3,000 m² house of Amado Carrillo Fuentes, alias “El Señor de los Cielos”, comprising nine bedrooms, swimming pool, jacuzzi and party room, is estimated at more than 3 million euros.

Already on sale three times

But what made the last resting place of “El Chapo” so famous, it is in particular its bathtub which concealed a tunnel. In fact, in 2014, when the soldiers were trying to return home, all he had to do was activate this ingenious system. The latter allowed him to raise his bathtub and thus escape through a passage connecting seven houses between them. Nicknamed the “king of the tunnels”, “El Chapo” was finally arrested in Mexico a little later and then sentenced to life in 2019 in the United States where he is serving his sentence.

Currently owned by the Independent, the “Institute for Returning Stolen Goods to the People”, Joaquin Guzman’s hideout has already been put up for sale three times, without ever finding a taker. Future buyers would probably be worried about the risk of reprisals from members of his cartel who have remained loyal to him. For this draw, two million tickets at a unit price of 250 pesos, or about 10 euros, were put on sale. The money collected will be used to finance social programs.
