And some holidaymakers take the act of taking it out quite literally: They carry things out of hotel rooms that are not nailed down. Cosmetic products anyway, but also towels, bathrobes and houseplants, glasses, bedside lamps and the prints of Monet’s water lily paintings.
That is at least regrettable for hoteliers, also expensive and in rather rare cases just a peculiar offense, but mostly simply criminal. In the hospitality industry, however, there is not just a take, but also a give: Because in the course of a lifetime, every tourist leaves half their household items in hotels. It is standard to leave a charging cable in the socket. Hoteliers do not have any direct benefit from this. But a resale via Ebay should in any case be profitable enough to be able to replace the stolen towels and on top of that the art prints.
Sex toys are often forgotten in hotels
With cosmetics, on the other hand, it depends on the unscrupulousness of the hoteliers: as many soaps and body lotions people put in their beauty cases, as many creams and shower gels they leave in their bathrooms. In principle a zero-sum game, but there are quality and hygiene questions to which every hotel manager may have his own answers.
The sex toy thing seems trickier. Surprisingly, this is often forgotten, as surveys among hoteliers show. Perhaps one or the other of them should encourage themselves and make an offer from the collection that accumulates over time: On request, there are erotic toys in the room, such as kettles or cots.
In order to save the honor of bathrobe thieves, it should be said: Very often items of clothing are forgotten in hotel rooms, especially wet bathing trunks and bikinis in the pockets of bathrobes. So it is very careful to pack the hotel bathrobes.
