The High Authority of Health published an opinion Friday which recommends reducing the waiting period to three months between the first vaccination and the booster dose. The HAS also recommends that a booster be administered to adolescents aged 12 to 17 at risk.

This new HAS recommendation takes into account the Omicron variant. Very recent studies analyze the vaccine efficacy against the last known variant of Covid-19. “We have had data, in particular from Israel, which shows that with regard to Omicron, and this was not the case with respect to Delta, the vaccine efficacy decreases from the third month and it reaches 34% at four months, “explains Professor Dominique Le Guludec, president of the institution. “On the other hand, with the recall, it increases very strongly beyond 75%”, she insists.

At the very beginning of the recall campaign, the government asked to wait six months after the first injection. It then went to five a few weeks ago and now it’s four. A decision taken by the Minister of Health Olivier Véran after the publication of the opinion of the High Authority of Health.

The HAS recommends the vaccination of 12-17 at risk

The institution issued another recommendation for the booster dose for at-risk adolescents. She may also soon decide on a extension of this reminder to all adolescents. But the Haute Autorité de Santé must take a close look at the tolerance of this additional injection for all 12-17 year olds.
