The Haute Autorité de santé recommends a third dose for those over 65 and the most fragile

The High Authority for Health recommended, in an opinion delivered on Tuesday, a third dose of vaccine against the coronavirus for those over 65 and the most vulnerable.

The authority also proposes to “simplify the vaccination course” of the people concerned “by administering the vaccine against influenza and that against Covid concomitantly” from the end of October.

A third free dose

Monday, on BFMTV, the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, announced that this third dose could arrive “as early as September”, arguing that “the protection conferred by the vaccine may decrease over time, over the months. “” Just to remind you briefly, the third dose is to tell yourself that once you have had two doses, you will be protected, but the protection conferred by the vaccine may diminish over time, over the months, and we must therefore offer a third injection to those who are the most fragile, ”he explained.

The minister had indicated that the government would await the opinion of the Haute Autorité de Santé (HAS). The HAS “will probably tell us to make this 3rd injection in all people aged 65 and over, who are traditionally called upon to be vaccinated against the flu and in those, younger, suffering from chronic diseases, who are very fragile” , he declared at the microphone of Yves Calvi.

Without waiting for the green light, the Minister of Health “asked (his) services to set up the program for those who fall under it. “The third injection for vulnerable groups could take place as early as September, according to Olivier Véran:” There will be a delay of at least six months between the second and the third injection. That the French do not rush, we will open the possibility when it is arbitrated by the HAS and the President of the Republic, I put tweezers, we want to open in September ”, he said, specifying that this third dose would be, like the previous two, free and covered by Social Security.
