They remained cautious until the last minute, because the Greens now fear nothing more than exaggerated expectations. On the evening of the election in North Rhine-Westphalia, however, there was also every reason for self-confidence at the national leadership of the party. According to the first projections, the Greens were around 18 percent. If it stayed that way, the party would have almost tripled its state election result of 6.4 percent in 2017.
