The government gives up ballast in Guadeloupe and Martinique: it has decided to postpone to December 31 “The finalization of the implementation of the vaccination obligation” for caregivers at the origin of the crisis in the West Indies, announce the Ministry of Overseas and the Ministry of Health in a joint press release.
The vaccination obligation was to apply on November 15 in the West Indies, the day of the call for a general strike in Guadeloupe. The movement then moved to Martinique where the protest began on November 22.
This decision thus comes following consultations initiated by the Minister of Overseas Territories, Sébastien Lecornu, and the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, with elected officials from the two territories. “If the law of the Republic must apply in all the French departments, and therefore in Guadeloupe and Martinique, the terms of application must be adapted to the health and social situation of these two territories in order, in particular, to guarantee good patient care and continuity of care ”, explain the two ministries.
Listening and dialogue groups
In Guadeloupe, where the level of vaccination of caregivers is now approaching 90%, “Listening and dialogue groups” will be set up from Monday to receive “Individually each professional concerned by a suspension for non-compliance with the vaccination obligation”, adds the press release.
The date of the vaccination obligation is also postponed to December 31 in Martinique for “All caregivers, employees of health and medico-social establishments, home helpers and firefighters”. After mediation was held at the Martinique University Hospital, its staff already benefited from this extension until the end of the year.
Whether in Guadeloupe or Martinique, for professionals who will accept this individualized device, “The suspension of their remuneration will be lifted for the duration of this exchange”. On the other hand, those who refuse “Will continue their suspension”, specifies the text.
The government also recalls that, at a time when “A fifth wave seems to be emerging, protecting the health of our fellow citizens is an absolute priority”. Now, he adds, “This protection involves the vaccination of all professionals who care for, help or support the French, and in particular the most vulnerable among them”.
