Colorful chaos and relationship problems: The cooperative adventure “It Takes Two” is the game of the year at “The Game Awards” in 2021.

On the night of December 10th, “The Game Awards” were presented once again. Every year the best video games of the year are awarded in different categories. The winner of the evening is the cooperative adventure “It Takes Two”.

In it, players slip into the roles of May and Cody, who are transformed into puppets. The couple struggles with relationship problems and has to pull themselves together to free themselves from this predicament and to find their way back to their daughter Rosie.

“It Takes Two” can thus assert itself against big names such as “Resident Evil Village”, the eighth main part of the well-known horror series, and the “Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart” available exclusively for PS5. “Deathloop”, “Metroid Dread” and “Psychonauts 2” were also nominated. In addition, the title was honored as the best family game and best multiplayer game.

The winners of other important categories

“Deathloop” was awarded in the category “Best Game Direction” and for the best “Art Direction”. “Returnal” can claim itself as the best action game, “Metroid Dread” is the best action adventure and “Tales of Arise” is the best role-playing game. “Guilty Gear -Strive-” fights for the fighting game throne, “Age of Empires IV” wins in the strategy category and the racing game “Forza Horizon 5” wins the sports games.

The award for the best game dealing with social issues goes to “Life is Strange: True Colors”. “Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy” is meanwhile awarded for the best story. “Kena: Bridge of Spirits” leads the indie games and indie debuts, and “Genshin Impact” is the best mobile game. The best esports title is “League of Legends” and the most anticipated video game of the coming year is “Elden Ring”.

The best performance by an actor or voice actor goes to Maggie Robertson as Lady Dimitrescu in “Resident Evil Village”, who thus prevails against “Breaking Bad” star Giancarlo Esposito (63, “Far Cry 6”), among others.
