By just seven seconds, France was beaten by Switzerland on Tuesday in the mixed team time trial at the Glasgow Worlds. The French group, made up of Rémi Cavagna, Bruno Armirail and Bryan Coquard for the men, Juliette Labous, Audrey Cordon-Ragot and Cédrine Kerbaol for the women, finished the race in 54’23, only ahead of the Swiss (Stefan Küng, Stefan Bissegger, Mauro Schmid, Marlen Reusser, Nicole Koller and Elise Chabbey), who retain their title acquired in Australia last year with a time of 54’16. Germany (Miguel Heidemann, Jannik Steimle, Max Walscheid, Ricarda Bauernfeind, Lisa Klein and Franziska Koch), who finished 51 seconds behind, won bronze.
The two countries which have entered their standard team or almost in this fourth edition of the mixed relay at the Worlds have therefore been rewarded. But Switzerland, which was already 20 seconds ahead after the relay of the men’s trio, managed to resist France. The girls maintained the gap despite the fall of the Marlen Reusser rocket. Italy, which was vice-world champion in title, must this time be content with fifth place, at 1’20, not helped it is true by the change of bike of Silvia Persico.
