The French Navy seizes more than 2.4 tonnes of cocaine off the African coast

Another nice catch for the French Navy in the Gulf of Guinea. On Thursday, 2,435 kg of cocaine were discovered on board a fishing boat which had left the Brazilian coast a few days earlier, we learned from the Atlantic maritime prefecture.

Hidden on board the boat, the goods were transhipped onto the surveillance frigate Ventose to be destroyed. “The maritime route taken could foreshadow the arrival of cocaine in Europe,” emphasize the maritime authorities.

Reinforced maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea

This “large-scale” operation, which took place on Thursday at dawn on the high seas, was launched on the basis of an investigation by the Brazilian federal police in cooperation with British (NCA) and American (DEA) investigation services. . It was conducted under the direction of the maritime prefect of the Atlantic and the public prosecutor of Brest.

The surveillance frigate Ventose has been involved since mid-September in Operation Corymbe intended to strengthen maritime security and fight against illicit activities (illegal fishing, piracy, drug trafficking) in the Gulf of Guinea.
