After the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, there is a very good chance that France will once again welcome the world of Olympics in the coming years. The executive board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in fact decided this Wednesday to enter into “targeted dialogue” with the French candidacy with a view to the 2030 Winter Games, assures AFP, which relies on sources close to the negotiations. Concretely, this means that this commission made its choice and excluded the files of Sweden and Switzerland, which had also applied.
“Sober” and “environmentally friendly” Games
The IOC will now discuss in more detail with those responsible for the French project, supported by the Aura and Paca regions, to study its feasibility. These Winter Games in France are intended to be “sober” and “environmentally friendly”, according to the terms of the project, with events concentrated on “two major Olympic centers”: the country of Nice (Nice and Isola 2000) and Briançon for the Southern Alps; Savoie (with Méribel/Courchevel, La Plagne, Val d’Isère) and Haute-Savoie (Le Grand-Bornand and La Clusaz) for the Northern Alps.
The next step is the final validation of this choice by an IOC vote in 2024. If everything goes as planned, it will be the fourth time that France will host the Winter Olympics, after Chamonix in 1924, Grenoble in 1968 and Albertville. in 1992.
