The free night of state politics – Bavaria

Unfortunately, many beautiful Bavarian folk customs have now been forgotten. In the past, on the Friday before May 1st, it was always a blast to wrap the neighbors’ beaten-up Opel Manta in toilet paper and laugh your head off when they discovered it the next morning. Today, the neighbors no longer drive a stinking combustion engine, but a cargo bike, and the toilet paper is hoarded in the locked basement because another pandemic could happen.

The Bavarians have now adopted the American custom of Halloween. It’s sort of like Walpurgis Night, where kids dress up as evil spirits, ring the doorbell, and ask, “Trick or treat?” Unlike the Three Wise Men, there are no limits to creativity when it comes to costumes. But it is strange that state politics has so far played no role in this festival of horrors.

Well, the Bavarian SPD has long since lost its terror, so it didn’t help that it now made the poisoned mug Florian von Brunn the top candidate for the state elections. But the Twitter freak Hubert Aiwanger, who first brushes down critical voices on social media and then blocks them, would be ideal for this. Better than any Guy Fawkes mask would be one with the face of Aiwanger? When he’s standing at the door, maybe a Winnetou next to him – that makes you feel completely different. And if the horror question comes up: “Firewood or hydrogen?”, then it’s all over.

Because we’re on the subject of masks: someone from the CSU would still be good, they’re specialists there. Markus Söder maybe less, “Trick or treat?” could hardly come from his lips. As you know him, the wanderer between the extremes, it would be more diabolical: “Sweet today, sour tomorrow?” out of it. After the election, however, everything is completely different again. Should someone call his predecessor ” Drehhofer ” again.

As the fourth in the group, we would like to have the former Austrian hopeful Sebastian Kurz, of whom the CSU was once so enthusiastic. How is it now? Hello, Vienna? (Which means that this bad joke would finally have ended up in the SZ.) It looks bad, that’s for sure. But that’s what Halloween is all about. And maybe in politics you vote for those who secretly give you the creeps.
