On Shrove Tuesday, too, there was no shortage of cheerfulness or fools in many parts of Bavaria. How often before the carnival final sprint was it complained that carnival in Bavaria – especially after the years of corona misery – was finally dead. But the skeptics were taught better. The balls and carnival parades of the past few weeks have proved to be crowd pullers in many places. Not infrequently, record numbers of participants and spectators were registered. The carnival parade in Bamberg also attracted thousands of visitors to the city center on Shrove Tuesday. No wonder, the motto “Carnival out of control – Europe firmly in the hands of fools” promised from the outset that it would not be a funeral event. Enthusiastic spectators lined the streets of Bamberg’s city center to watch the foolish spectacle, which of course did not ignore the misery in other parts of Europe. For example, a group of Ukrainian women danced on a float during the carnival parade and used this opportunity to call for a demonstration in Bamberg next Friday.
