The first work on tram construction begins in Johanneskirchen. – Munich

The first preparatory measures for the construction of the tram north tangent, Johanneskirchen section, begin on Johanneskirchner Straße at the end of September. Supply lines for district heating, water, electricity and telecommunications as well as street lighting will be laid by the end of 2024 in order to clear the construction site for the planned expansion of Munich’s tram network.

This is followed by the actual main construction work – the construction of tracks and roads. This will extend throughout 2025. From Monday, September 25th, preparations will take place for the changed traffic routing along Johanneskirchner Straße. To do this, curbs will be removed, mobile traffic lights will be set up and the new lanes will be marked.

During the work, obstructions and barriers in the sidewalk and roadway areas are to be expected. Parking in the construction site area is not possible. Access to the houses and driveways is ensured by bridges. The exits from Fürkhofstrasse and Grimmeisenstrasse into Johanneskirchner Strasse will be closed.

From the beginning of October, the first tree felling and bush clearing will follow, primarily on the central divider, but also in the peripheral areas along the construction site. It is expected that 34 trees will be felled for the first phase of construction. The JK grill station on Freischützstrasse is moving to a new location nearby and can therefore remain in place until further notice.
