In its decision rendered on Wednesday, the Elders explain that “significant and unexplained discrepancies were noted between the figures entered in the minutes retracing the results and those appearing in the counting sheets.”

The elected official in charge of the elections for the town hall of Toulouse, Sacha Briand, pleads “a purely clerical error”. Indeed, the counting was split into two counting tables but the results of the same table were transmitted twice.

Due to irregularities, the Constitutional Council annulled 10,216 votes throughout France.

In Toulouse, Jean-Luc Mélenchon came out on top in the first round of the presidential election with 36.95% of the vote, against 26.39% for Emmanuel Macron and 9.55% for Marine Le Pen.
