Three memory sizes and two styluses make the price of the new Kindle Scribe vary neatly. While the smallest version with 16 GB of storage space and the standard stylus is already available for 370 euros, the large 64 GB version with the so-called premium stylus is sold for 450 euros.
The first reactions in the social networks suggest that the e-reader presented at yesterday’s Amazon hardware event has no problems finding buyers. The possibility of using the Kindle for text input, which was newly implemented with the Kindle Scribe, was apparently on the wish list of many e-book fans.
As far as its basic functions are concerned, the new Kindle Scribe is not particularly out of line: The anti-glare 10.2-inch display with 300 ppi relies on the proven Paperwhite technology and is equipped with a front light.
With PDF and Word support
Text input is new and can be used to write notes in books, keep a diary or check documents. According to Amazon, PDFs and web content as well as Microsoft Word documents are supported here – from 2023 Microsoft’s word processor will have a corresponding integration that allows Word documents to be sent directly to your own Kindle.
The Kindle Scribe is 5.8 mm thin and uses a non-powered stylus, which, according to Amazon, should provide a “pleasant writing experience like on paper” and magnetically sticks to the Kindle Scribe when not in use. The input pens offer multiple line widths, text marking tools and a (virtual) eraser.
Available for pre-order now
The premium stylus also provides a separate button for configurable shortcuts and an eraser on the top – this allows the stylus to be used on both sides.
Kindle Scribe lets itself under amazon.com/kindlescribe pre-order now on Amazon. Delivery will take place in the 4th quarter.
