The fire slows down and is “under control” in the Monts d’Arrée

Finally some respite. Since Tuesday evening and the last situation update carried out by the Finistère prefecture, the fire has made very little progress. This Wednesday morning, around 1,725 hectares of vegetation had burned in the Monts d’Arrée, hit by a very virulent fire since Monday’s extremely hot day. Helped by the drop in temperatures and the drop in the wind, the firefighters managed to slow the progression of the fire. “The situation is under control”, specifies the prefecture of Finistère. In one night, the fire crunched “only” an additional 25 hectares. It remains, by far, the most important fire that Brittany has known.

On site, nearly 280 firefighters and 60 firefighting vehicles were still present. Finistère firefighters received support from their counterparts in Côtes-d’Armor and Morbihan to fight the flames. About 500 people were evacuated from several villages and hamlets, including Botmeur. Four sections of roads are still closed to traffic in an area ranging from Commana to La Feuillée via Brasparts and the famous Roc’h Tredudon, which rises to 385 meters.

The circumstances of the outbreak of the fire are unknown at this time. An investigation was opened to try to determine the causes of the fire, which started not far from the chapel of Saint-Michel de Brasparts, which could be saved. Mobilized in numbers since Monday afternoon, the firefighters even lost several devices, swallowed by the flames. Monday, temperatures of more than 39 ° C never reached in Finistère were recorded.
