The fine particle pollution alert extended to the Alpes-Maritimes and reinforced in the Bouches-du-Rhône

The episode of “winter combustion-type air pollution” which has affected the Paca region since Sunday now extends to the Alpes-Maritimes. After having concerned the Bouches-du-Rhône, the Vaucluse and the Var, the fine particle pollution alert will also be triggered for the Nice department on Wednesday.

“This Tuesday, AtmoSud issued an air quality bulletin resulting in the triggering of the information-recommendation threshold in the Alpes-Maritimes for winter combustion-type pollution. On Wednesday, the department will be placed on level 1 alert, ”announces the prefecture. “The concentrations of particles are on the rise, especially in the evening, in connection with the use of wood-burning heaters”, specifies the air quality monitoring observatory of the Paca region.

Level 2 in Bouches-du-Rhône and Vaucluse

As a result, the maximum authorized speeds will be lowered by 20 km / h on Wednesday, without however falling below 70 km / h. A measure already taken since Monday in the Var, Bouches-du-Rhône and Vaucluse. And these last two departments will even go to level 2 of the alert this Wednesday, which implies additional provisions in certain companies.

And the phenomenon is here to stay. “The stable anticyclonic weather conditions, that is to say absence of wind and thermal inversion, are unfavorable to the dispersion of pollutants and should last, at least, until the end of the week”, indicates AtmoSud.
