The feature film Schächten will be shown at the Jewish Film Days – Munich

“We all looked the same under the helmet,” the accused claimed in court. And gets away with it: In the Austrian feature film “Schächten”, the Vienna-born Jew Victor (Jeff Wilbusch) discovers his parents’ Nazi tormentor twenty years after the end of the Second World War. With the help of the “Nazi hunter” Simon Wiesenthal (Christian Berkel), he succeeds in bringing the man to justice. But in a country and a time in which the years of the National Socialist regime have not been worked through, in which people haggled for posts and the judiciary is not always denazified, there is an acquittal. So Victor decides to take the law into his own hands. For this historical thriller, director and screenwriter Thomas Roth has taken on a chapter from Austria’s past that is still very relevant today. “Schächten” was shown in Austrian cinemas and at several international festivals in 2022. The film can now be seen as part of the Jewish Film Days in Munich. The director will be present at the performance.
