In recent years, the term “boomer” has mostly been used in a condescending context, as a swear word for an aging generation and above all for its male half, who has lost their leading position and are struggling with the new, polyphonic times. In this respect, it is of subtle irony that the sociologist Heinz Bude, whose name already corresponds to his generational attribution, held his ceremonial farewell lecture at the University of Kassel on Wednesday evening under the title “Farewell to the Boomers”.
