The exhibition “Forbidden to look away!” in Rosenheim – Munich

Even though the picture book exhibition in the Rosenheim City Gallery was entitled “Forbidden to look away!” the show, curated by the literary critic Christine Knödler, wants to motivate exactly the opposite: Around 300 works by 29 artists from Germany and abroad invite younger and older visitors to take a closer look, devote themselves to explosive topics such as the climate crisis and war, clear up role models and discuss questions of justice. The list of artists reads like a “Who’s Who” of the current illustrator landscape. They range from the wonderfully anarchic picture panels to Jens Rassmus’ book “Juhu, Last! The New Animal Olympics” to the contrasting look back into the German-German past with “Hübendrüber” by Franziska Gehm and Horst Klein to frightening insights to the room for “Flight and Refuge” decorated with empty suitcases.
