The government disavowed by the Retirement Orientation Council (COR)? In a new report to be published, the COR estimates that the pension reform should not make it possible to restore the financial balance of the system by 2030.
According to the economist Michaël Zemmour, questioned this Thursday morning by RMC, the non-compliance with the objective is explained by an error of the executive. “When the government presented the reform accounts, it made a presentation error by counting certain revenues twice. This is an error of the order of 4 billion. This partly explains why the balance will not be reached in 2030 when it was a government objective,” commented the specialist.
A retirement “less good for the new generations”
According to him, the executive has caught itself in the trap by centering the parliamentary debates around the question of the deficit. “In reality, there is no dramatic stake in the deficit. The reform really has effects, because it will shift pension rights and it produces savings, quite significant in the first years, ”says the economist.
Before continuing. “The COR raises much bigger things. He tells us that the retreat is getting shorter. People born in 1968, who will bear the brunt of the reform, will have two years less in retirement than the generation of their parents born in 1950. Until ten years ago, retirement was only a long step , it has not stopped improving since the 1970s, today retirement is getting shorter, it will be less good for the new generations”.
The government reacted to the first leaks of this report, not yet officially released. Bruno Le Maire said he took the COR forecasts “with caution”. The Minister of the Economy criticizes the independent body for modifying its assessments “every six months”.
Last January, the executive was already annoyed after statements by Pierre-Louis Bras. The president of the authority had estimated that the “retirement expenses do not slip”, thus dismissing the urgency of a reform.
