The HBO series The Equalizer, starring Queen Latifah, will be renewed for at least two seasons, the broadcaster said.

HBO has renewed The Equalizer for two more seasons. This will continue the drama series with Queen Latifah (52) until 2024, reports “The Hollywood Reporter”.

Thom Sherman, vice president of programming at CBS Entertainment, credits the series’ success with the “amazing Queen Latifah” and “themes of justice, family dynamics and the real world that connect and resonate with audiences.”

“The Equalizer” is a reboot of the series “The Equalizer – The Guardian Angel of New York” which ran from 1985-1989. Back then, the episodes revolved around male ex-CIA agent Robert McCall (Edward Woodward, 1930-2009). The new edition can be seen on Sky, Amazon Prime or Apple TV.

Chris Noth no longer there

In addition to Queen Latifah, Chris Noth (67), best known as Mr. Big in “Sex and the City”, also had a leading role in the series. His character, former CIA chief William Bishop, was dropped from the action series in January after several women accused him of sexual assault. Noth played the mentor to Queen Latifah’s (52) character Robin McCall.
