They will change identity. The members of Europe Ecologie Les Verts have adopted the principle of changing the name of the party, which could become “The Ecologists”, following a convention in the summer of 2023.
The members, who placed the elected northerner Marine Tondelier in the lead on Saturday in the first round of the vote intended to choose their new leader, also expressed themselves on several thematic motions, the results of which were officially made public on Wednesday.
A majority motion, signed by Marine Tondelier
One of these motions, called “Opening up to rebuild ourselves”, which notably provides for “a convention of the refoundation at the beginning of the summer of 2023 which will record the creation of the new movement thus built and which will be called The Ecologists”, was adopted by 63.23% of members who voted.
This motion is signed in particular by Marine Tondelier, the deputy national secretary Lea Balage El Mariky, the leader of the environmental deputies in the Assembly Cyrielle Chatelain, or the mayor of Grenoble Eric Piolle.
Only 5,625 voters voted on Saturday, out of an electorate of 12,648 members (i.e. a participation of 44.24%). At the previous congress in 2019, turnout was 41% for 3,200 voters (out of 7,700 people).
