ARD production wins “Best Series” in Cannes
The ARD series “Die Zweiflers” won an award at the Canneseries.

The ARD dramedy “Die Zweiflers” made a big impression at the Canneseries. It won three awards, including Best Series.
The German dramedy series “Die Zweiflers” won in three categories at the Cannes International Series Festival. “Best Music”, “High School Award for Best Series” and the main prize “Best Series” went to the ARD production.
“Three awards for ‘The Doubts’ in Cannes!” said the managing director of ARD Degeto Film, Thomas Schreiber, in a press release about the awards. And further: “This is simply sensational, extremely well-deserved and makes us happy because this clever, talented team around David Hadda has created a series that doesn’t happen every day: The premiere in Cannes made us all laugh and cry brought at the same moment.” As Degeto previously reported“The Doubts” was selected from around 350 submissions from the Cannes International Series Festival for this year’s competition.
The six-part series is about a Jewish-German family that wants to sell their delicatessen in Frankfurt am Main. The description says: “But the sale brings back the past, when the wild beginnings of Symcha Zweifler unexpectedly revive in Frankfurt’s red light district right after the Second World War. A single store becomes a test for the entire family, as long-repressed conflicts resurface break open.”
“The Doubts”: From May 3rd in the ARD media library
The main roles include Mike Burstyn (78), Aaron Altaras (28), Saffron Coomber (29), Mark Ivanir (55), Ute Lemper (60) and Martin Wuttke (62). Showrunner of “Die Zweiflers” is David Hadda, directed by Anja Marquardt and Clara Zoë My-Linh von Arnim. Hadda wrote the script together with Juri Sternburg and Sarah Hadda. The six episodes of “Die Zweiflers” will be shown in the ARD media library from May 3rd.
The Canneseries have been held in Cannes since 2018. The free and freely accessible festival celebrates according to his own statements “Series from all over the world and brings together the creators and lovers of series”.
