The district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen blocks the area around Schloss Elmau in Bavaria

A week before the start of the G7 summit, the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen is blocking a large area around the conference venue from this Sunday. From June 19 at 6 a.m. to June 28 at midnight, “a security area will be set up around Elmau Castle, in the areas of the municipality of Krün, the Mittenwald market and the Garmisch-Partenkirchen market,” says a general decree, which was published in the Official Journal on Wednesday. “Access to this area is strictly prohibited during the period described above.” Forest areas with hiking trails and forest roads are mostly affected. “Recreation in the great outdoors is limited to the (…) specified time and space.” Only accredited participants and contributors to the G7 conference and people with special permission have access to the security area.

The heads of state and government of the G7 countries will meet at Schloss Elmau from 26 to 28 June. Several demonstrations with thousands of participants are expected in the area. The G7 includes Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy, the USA, Canada and Japan. Since Monday, travelers have had to expect random checks at all German borders with neighboring countries. This is to prevent the arrival of possible violent criminals from abroad.
