Will the super methaniser project carried by an agricultural cooperative in the town of Corcoué-sur-Logne (Loire-Atlantique), south of Nantes, see the light of day? The question arises when it is already gathering opposition from associations and some of the residents, who are multiplying
demonstrations. This Friday evening, it is the departmental council (PS) which further weakens it by pronouncing an “unfavorable opinion” on the subject of the project
MéthaHerbauges, “Within the strict framework of its competence”.
“After analyzing the elements communicated, it emerges that the implementation of the project (…) is incompatible with the existing road infrastructure and would require major road improvements”, writes the community, which fears that the existing roads cannot absorb the increased traffic. The establishment of this methaniser, on an unprecedented scale in France, in fact provides for “nearly 200 truck passages” per day, which risks creating “insecure situations”. for residents, fears the department, which has been engaged for several years in a “zero land artificialization” approach.
The project had already been revised downwards
Last March, faced with contestation, the project leaders had already revised their copy by reducing by a third the volume of cow droppings, which they plan to transform into biomethane from the end of 2023. This giant methaniser, whose investment cost amounts to 80 million euros, would involve some 200 contributing farmers. In mid-October, the National Commission for Public Debate (CNDP) estimated that a new phase of discussions should be organized before the opening of a public inquiry.
