Dix minutes. This is what it took for US Dax this Friday to break Béziers. Time to score three tries and provoke a red card from the visitors. And enough to never be joined by the Biterrois, despite being second in Pro D2 at kick-off.
Nothing better to get your head back on track after an insipid match ended with a defeat the previous week at Valence-Romans. And once again put pressure on the top 6 in the ranking.
However, the start of the game is tight and the level struggles to rise. The rhythm is jerky, the attacks come in spurts and with little continuity in intentions. The fault is several whistles to go forward or more or less gross faults. And when it’s not the wrong rhythm, it’s an incomprehensible error from Gatelier which spoils the excitement.
On a superb maul release, and a no less superb breakthrough from Naseara, the Dax-trained winger wanders into the goal. Quietly, too much. Gatelier doesn’t look and doesn’t see Lorre coming back to prevent him from scoring when the hard part, or rather everything, was done. In the stands, we are confused about whether we should blame him or not.
Red emerges
Postponed. In the process, the mischievous Reteau hits a tiny kick over a ruck. Duprat, also heckled by the public, not always rightly, intelligently lobs Lorre with a little flick before going to flatten and celebrate everything in rage. Deserved, for him and for the USD.
On the dismissal or almost, the Biterrois Koen clears like a mess on Jean-Baptiste Barrère. Shoulder to the head, and expulsion (30th). The situation then really becomes complicated for the second of Pro D2. A splash of red, and everything is cleared up. In the following minute, well served upwind by Reteau, Wasley left almost alone, not without a little commotion over Benoy, further adding to the score in favor of the locals.
The domination is total. Right down to the sidelines, not always the Dacquoise specialty this season. Louis Barrère sticks to the maul to recover his ball and flattens it in turn. Four tries scored, the offensive bonus at half-time, more than 20 points difference (29-6). Really not the expected scenario, but Boyau demanding it, takes it.
Rugby champagne
The Biterrois return to the locker room disappointed, and will never really come out. The visitors suffer each impact, are pushed into touch or into their goal. Nothing works in their favor.
Leatigaga scores his try from a scrum 5 meters away. Naseara on a breakthrough of 50. Then Gatelier on a restart from the Dacquois from their 10 meters. Rugby champagne, Dax passes more than 50 points to one of the biggest names in the championship. That the tries at the end of the match from Nanai-Tavae and Lorre, unbreeched by Naseara for the occasion, will not be any consolation.
History will record that the USD waited for the return of almost sunny days, at least dry weather, to release what looks like its best performance of the season. And above all the arrival of a renowned opponent. Enough to spend the three weeks of truce with a light mind. The top 6 is not very far away. Maintaining even less.
