The decisions of the Courts of Appeal now freely accessible on the Internet

Justice for all. From now on, “all civil, social and commercial decisions made publicly by the 36 courts of appeal in France” will be accessible on the Internet, the Court of Cassation announced on Friday. Civil justice is that which settles disputes between individuals or legal persons under private law, social justice designates industrial tribunals and commercial justice, commercial courts. In all, this represents approximately 180,000 decisions per year.

This applies to all decisions issued after April 15, 2022, although 82,000 appeal court decisions issued before this date have also been “entered into the database”. To access it, you have to go through the search engine Judicialwhich already gave access since October 1 to all the decisions rendered by the Court of Cassation.

Data open movement

This “new step in the implementation of” open data “of decisions” of justice “responds to a strong expectation of the community of lawyers”, assured the Court of Cassation.

The decisions of other judicial jurisdictions (in criminal matters in particular) should join this movement of opening up data “between June 2023 and December 2025”. This online publication was provided for by the law of programming and reform for justice of March 2019.
