The actor, who played the legendary Chandler Bing in the flagship sitcom of the 90s, was found lifeless on Saturday in his Los Angeles home. This sudden disappearance, when he was only 54 years old, arouses great emotion.

From the circle of Hollywood stars to anonymous fans of the series Friends, passing through various personalities, there has been desolation since the announcement of the death of Matthew Perry on Saturday October 28. Tributes abound on social networks, recalling the impact of the American series on an entire generation (and beyond), and the attachment to one of its funniest characters, Chandler. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau paid a touching tribute to Matthew Perry. The actor spent part of his youth in Canada and the two men attended the same school: “The passing of Matthew Perry is sad and heartbreaking. I will never forget our schoolyard games, and I know that people around the world will not forget the joy you brought them. Thank you for all the laughter, Matthew. You were loved, and you will be missed.”

The Warner Bros. firm, whose studios hosted the filming of Friends for ten years, said to herself “Deeply saddened by the news of Matthew Perry’s passing. He was a true gift to us all.”

Actress Shannen Doherty, former star of the series Beverly Hills And Charmed in the 1990s and 2000s, dedicated to Instagram a whole text to the one she met within a group of friends for a long time, on Instagram: “We were a gang for a long time. We all grew up together (…) We were always having fun and supporting each other. We could always be found hanging out together (…) speaking our own made-up language. And yes, Matt always had THIS sense of humor. Matt and I had a date and it was on Valentine’s Day. He wanted to make a reservation at a restaurant in Malibu but he couldn’t, so my dad got the reservation for him. We went there and he talked about my father’s Irish persuasion most of the night. Our friendship lasted a long time. A lifetime really. I know many are suffering, especially our little gang. He will be missed to many and certainly to us. I could be more poetic or say things better but right now, shock and sadness prevail.”

Actress Selma Blair paid tribute to the actor’s memory with a touching photo taken with him, and personal words: “My oldest boyfriend. We all loved Matthew Perry, me especially. Every day. I loved him unconditionally. And he did the same to me. And I’m broken. Heartbroken. Sweet dreams Matty. Sweet Dreams.”

Actress Mira Sorvino expressed her shock on Twitter: “Oh no!!! Matthew Perry!! You sweet and troubled soul!! May you find peace and happiness in heaven, making everyone laugh with your singular spirit!”

The actress Maggie Wheeler, who played in Friends Chandler’s infuriating girlfriend Janice paid tribute to Matthew Perry on Instagram: “What a loss. The world will miss you, Matthew Perry.”
