The day after the presidential election in Senegal, all eyes are on the two favorites

Macky Sall’s coalition was represented in the presidential election by former Prime Minister Amadou Ba. The former minister must speak live at the end of the day. While the official results are expected this week, Bassirou Diomaye Faye has not spoken since Sunday.

After three years of agitation and crisis, the Senegalese are still waiting, Monday March 25, to know the outcome of the presidential vote the day before, which will decide between continuity and perhaps radical change. Amadou Ba, presidential majority candidate, announced that he would speak in the afternoon.

The anti-system opponent, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, has remained silent since he voted on Sunday. The results published in the media and on social networks place him clearly ahead of that of power, Amadou Ba, and very far ahead of the others.

“At the stage we are at, the chips are down” in favor of Bassirou Diomaye Faye, Ababacar Fall, leader of Gradec, an NGO for democracy and good governance, told AFP.

“The candidate of power can no longer compensate for the gap in view of the trends,” he said, based on his organization’s projections based on 70% of the ballots.

Official results should be known later this week. The national electoral commission has until Friday to publish provisional results, before their validation by the Constitutional Council.
