The Czech Republic deserves more than friendly disinterest – opinion

At least since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the worldwide search for friends has been a central concern of the federal government. Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz cultivates new and old partnerships with great enthusiasm from Asia to Africa to Latin America. The cabinet has just returned from the first intergovernmental consultations with Japan. As important as this is in competition with the authoritarian axis led by China, it is all the more striking how much less energy and enthusiasm the German government dedicates to the Middle East from a German perspective. When the new Czech President Petr Pavel pays his inaugural visit this Tuesday, a deep sigh should go through Berlin.
