“The Crown” director Christian Schwochow
Filming Diana’s death was extremely difficult
Christian Schwochow has established himself as director of the Netflix series “The Crown”. And so he was entrusted with probably the most sensitive episode.
In conversation with the “Picture on Sunday” Schwochow now spoke about how it felt for him to stage the fateful day in Paris in 1997 for the successful Netflix series. This is “difficult for various reasons [gewesen]”Because of course they are events that are still in the collective memory,” says Schwochow.
Similar to Diana and Dodi, “we were also under constant observation during the shoot,” Schwochow draws a bold comparison. He and the other employees on the set were repeatedly accused – including by paparazzi – of being “disrespectful”. For the filmmaker, this is more than a “strange double standard, considering that the media certainly had some responsibility for Diana and Dodi’s death.”
Faithfulness to the original without sensationalism
In contrast to these allegations, great care was taken to “Diana’s death [zu] without being spectacular or seeking sensation. At the same time, we wanted to show the story as it happened. The hunt for images, the greed for stories. Telling this story appropriately is a huge challenge.”
The sixth and final season of “The Crown” comes in two parts: Netflix released the first four episodes on November 16th, and the final episodes five to ten will follow from December 14th.
