Updated, Saturday December 25, 2023. There boat crane embedded in the Guillaume-le-Conquérant bridge in Rouen is still stuck this Saturday morning. Despite the intervention of the firefighters (who were able to save a man last night) and the municipal services, it is still not possible to remove it.

Vehicle traffic on the bridge is therefore still cut off and could, according to our information, still be until Wednesday. Pedestrians can use the bridge but only in the right bank-left bank direction.

Impressive and rare accident this Sunday, December 24, 2023 in Rouen. The crane of a passing boat remained attached to the William the Conqueror Bridge.

An impressive accident with a crane

The incident occurred at midday. According to the mayor of Rouen, Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, “a boat forgot to fold up his crane who hit the bridge. As a result, “the crane remained hanging”.

The image of the mechanical arm stuck and plunging into the Seine is impressive. And this is not without consequences.

The bridge is closed

“The efforts on the bridge are increasing because the Seine is descending,” notes Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol. Consequently, river traffic is interrupted on the Seine at Rouen. Traffic on the bridge was also completely closed “until the crane is removed”.
