The Council of State upholds the ban on the hijab in competition

The wearing of the hijab in women’s football remains prohibited, the Council of State decided on Thursday, against the opinion of its public rapporteur who had recommended the lifting of this ban, triggering an outcry in the political class.

In its decision, the Council of State considers that the players are indeed users of a public service and therefore not subject to the duty of “neutrality”, but that the French Football Federation (FFF) can enact the rules that it considers necessary for the “good running” of the matches.
