The costs of building have increased enormously, especially in Munich – Munich

The construction costs are so high that there is hardly any living space left. The costs of many public projects are also exploding. A medium-sized entrepreneur explains why this is at his construction site in Munich.

Anyone who wants to build in Germany must be able to afford it. Construction prices for single- and multi-family homes climbed by 41 percent between 2010 and 2021, according to the Federal Statistical Office. The inflation rate rose “only” by 17 percent in the same period. And things haven’t gotten better since then. “Construction got through quite well through the Corona crisis. Then came the war in Ukraine, which hit us much harder,” says Siegfried Huber, managing director of Grossman Bau. “The prices for reinforced steel and energy have run away from us, the supply chains have stopped working. It was a truly herculean task for us to find solutions together with building owners.”
