The cost of damage estimated at one million euros for traders in the city center

André Deljarry, president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Montpellier, estimated at one million euros the cost of the riots linked to the death of Nahel for the merchants of downtown Montpellier.

“The damage exceeds one million euros for sixteen businesses, between the goods and the breakage”, he explained on the airwaves of France Bleu Hérault, of which he was the guest this Monday morning. “Four to five will remain closed, including the Swarovski jewelry store. Twenty to thirty people are technically unemployed. »

Telephony, jewellers, cosmetics…

Telephone sellers, jewelers, ready-to-wear stores or stores specializing in cosmetics were the target of looters in the city center of the Hérault prefecture, in the nights from Friday to Saturday and Saturday to Sunday, basically. Some of whom, already victims of damage on the sidelines of demonstrations against pension reform or “yellow vests”, no longer have insurance.

This figure does not include the damage caused to traders in other areas of the city. In particular those of Paillade, the city Astruc, the avenue de Lodève, the Cévennes and the Petit-Bard, also victims of numerous lootings.
