The contribution of businesses to public transport will increase in 2024

The contribution of companies to public transport in Ile-de-France will increase from February 1, 2024, Ile-de-France Mobilités, the organizing authority for Ile-de-France transport, indicated on Saturday following a council of exceptional administration. In Paris, and in the departments of Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis and Val-de-Marne, the contribution should thus amount to 3.20% of the payroll of companies over 11 employees, instead of the current 2.95%, IDFM indicated in a press release.

The contribution will be increased in the same proportions in the municipalities of Seine-et-Marne, Essonne, Yvelines, and Val d’Oise which belong to the perimeter of the urban unit of Paris, where it currently amounts to 2.01% of the payroll, and in the other more remote municipalities of Ile-de-France, where it currently stands at 1.60%. In total, this rate increase should generate “around 400 million additional euros” in 2024, Ile-de-France-Mobilités said in its press release.

“Secure recipes”

The meeting of the exceptional board of directors was made possible by the publication in the Official Journal on Saturday of the 2024 finance law authorizing this increase on companies. The council’s vote follows the “historic agreement” signed with the state in September, IDFM said.

The agreement, signed by the president of the Authority Valérie Pécresse and the Minister for Transport Clément Beaune, is supposed to make it possible to “secure revenues from public transport in the Ile-de-France region until 2031” and finance the operation of the 300 kilometers of new lines planned for the coming years.

Needs estimated at 800 million euros for 2024

Above all, the agreement makes it possible to limit the increase in the price of the Navigo Pass (the transport subscription for Ile-de-France residents, editor’s note) to the level of inflation expected in 2024, i.e. 2.6%. This had suffered a very sharp increase of 12% in 2023, while companies had not seen their contribution increase last year. The Authority has established its financing needs at €800 million for 2024.

As a reminder, in 2024, the extension of metro line 14 to the north and south between Orly airport and Saint-Denis, the extension of the RER E to Nanterre to the east, and the one of metro line 11 towards Rosny-sous-bois with six additional stations.
