7:11 p.m. : This proposal for a referendum of shared initiative (RIP) was carried by some 250 deputies and senators. It aimed to organize a consultation setting the legal retirement age at 62 and not beyond. After this rejection by the Constitutional Council, the left is betting on a next step in the National Assembly on June 8, the day of examination of a bill from the independent group Liot to repeal the disputed reform.

7:07 p.m. : Anticipating rallies after publication of the decision of the Elders, the Paris police headquarters banned undeclared demonstrations from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m., near the Constitutional Council.

7:07 p.m. : “The bill submitted to the Constitutional Council does not meet the conditions set by Article 11 of the Constitution and by Article 45-2 of Ordinance No. 58-1067 of 7 November 1958 establishing organic law on the Council constitutional”detail the Sages, who therefore consider this request non-compliant.

7:07 p.m. : The constitutionnal Council rejects the second request for a split initiative referendum (RIP) filed by the opposition against the pension reform.

5:49 p.m. : According to a decree of the Paris police headquarters, undeclared demonstrations are prohibited this evening, from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m., near the Constitutional Council.

5:44 p.m. : The Constitutional Council told franceinfo that it would publish its decision this evening, at 7 p.m., on the second draft referendum of shared initiative.

4:15 p.m. : According to information from franceinfo, the government is considering how it could propose this type of measure again, and in particular the creation of a “barricade building offence”.

4:13 p.m. : Many of you mentioned this anti-thug law that the government is preparing. Note that in 2019, the Constitutional Council had only validated part of the anti-breakers law. The Elders had censored the measure allowing prefects to issue administrative bans on demonstrations.

09:13 : Faced with the damage to shops and clashes during the demonstrations, Bruno Le Maire affirms that “the authority must have the last word in our country”. “The freedom to demonstrate and express oneself [doit être] whole, but the breakage, the violence, the threat, landing in the shops, landing in the GA, it is intolerable and unacceptable”judges the Minister of the Economy.

Both left and right parliamentarians do not believe in a positive decision by the Constitutional Council on the second request for a shared initiative referendum on the subject of pension reform. The court is due to render its decision today.

06:43 : In a letter sent to Gérald Darmanin, Dominique Simonnot calls on the Minister of the Interior to “vigilance”. She reminds him “Irequired to ensure compliance with the legislative and regulatory provisions applicable to the custody procedure”.

06:42 : “The instructions given by the police headquarters and the Paris public prosecutor’s office, as well as the dismissal of 80% of the procedures, reveal a massive recourse, as a preventive measure, to the deprivation of liberty for the purpose of maintaining public order.”

06:39 : Following these visits, the Comptroller General of places of deprivation of liberty reports “violent arrests”, “systematic searches in underwear”unworthy hygiene conditions”, “insufficient individual spaces in collective cells” or “irregularities in the interpellation sheets”.
