Will we all soon have to present a negative covid test to travel? This is the direction that Italy seems to be taking with the implementation of “Covid free” trains between Milan and Rome. Travelers, but also drivers and inspectors must test negative before they can board. They can do a PCR or antigen test, but it should be less than 48 hours old.
Travelers can be tested just before departure at a Red Cross center near each station. In the event of a positive result, the Italian railway company Trenitalia undertakes to reimburse the ticket in full.
Allow the resumption of tourism
Even vaccinated people should have taken the test. Because the stake of this device is above all psychological (and economic). The goal: to regain the confidence of travelers and allow the resumption of tourism.
The device is currently reserved for the direct link between Milan and Rome but it could then be extended across the country. In 2020, Italy recorded a 50.9% drop in the number of tourists staying in hotels or hostels.
