Staging a “cemetery of feminicides” and calling on the government to “invest two billion euros” each year to fight against violence against women, the collective #NousToutes mobilized, Sunday in Paris, to denounce the 101st feminicide of the year in France.
All dressed in black, wearing a purple veil over their faces as a sign of mourning, 101 women each raised in silence, Place du Panthéon, a sign on which were inscribed the first name and age of each victim, according to a journalist from the AFP.
Emergency accommodation and serious danger telephones
On other signs, placed on the ground in the middle of these women, one could read: “We want to be alive”, or even: “To love does not mean to kill”. Hundreds of people attended this performance. “We are on October 9, and 101 women have been murdered by a man because they were women, we no longer want to count our deaths”, declared before the press Yuna Miralles, of the association #NousToutes, for whom “the government is not doing enough”.
“There is an urgent request for places in emergency accommodation, which women and their children need to take shelter, or 213,000 serious danger telephones, which correspond to the number of women in danger”, he said. she listed, as well as “a substantial investment by the government of two billion euros each year to ensure that the tools already available are reinforced and correctly put in place”.
A demonstration on November 19
Member of the collective, Nadia, 35, came from Seine-Saint-Denis to “pay tribute to all these women who died under the influence of men”. “My mother and I were victims of domestic violence, it must stop and that is why I decided to act,” she explained.
The collective called on Sunday to demonstrate in the street on November 19 for the eradication of sexist and sexual violence. The number of femicides increased by 20% in France in 2021 compared to the previous year, with 122 women killed under the blows of their spouse or ex-spouse, against 102 in 2020, according to a report published at the end of August by the ministry. inside. The year 2020, with 102 women killed compared to 146 in 2019, had been exceptional, without knowing what role the periods of confinement and curfew linked to Covid-19 played there.
