OGC Nice announced Thursday evening that it would seize “the CNOSF in order to contest the closure of the lower part of the Popular South stand”, during the match against Toulouse, on November 26, counting for the 13th day of Ligue 1.
This decision was taken by the disciplinary committee of the Professional Football League (LFP) on October 31. The entity justified the closure of this part of the stand “by revocation of the suspension”, due to “the use of pyrotechnic devices, use of laser and intrusion”, committed by the “Nice supporters”, during the meeting against Marseille (1-0) on October 21, counting for the 9th day.
“Firecrackers that harm the vast majority of supporters”
In its press release, the club explains its referral to the CNOSF (French National Olympic and Sports Committee) by the fact that the decision of the LFP disciplinary committee “is exclusively linked to the use of pyrotechnic devices […], in particular firecrackers which add nothing to the atmosphere of the match and harm the club and the vast majority of supporters. On the other hand, the club insists on “the overall good behavior of its supporters for many months” so that they “are not stigmatized”.
Nice, current leader of Ligue 1, will host Rennes next Sunday at 8:45 p.m., at the conclusion of the 11th day of the championship.
