The city will review all its pricing for the canteen and leisure center

The bill will no longer be the same in the coming months. As of January 8, 2024, the city of Rennes will completely review its pricing system for extracurricular and extracurricular activities. The current scale, in force since 2011, was based on a bracketed system, with 13 different brackets depending on the parents’ income. Not very readable, this system “no longer worked very well because the majority of families were concentrated in only three brackets”, underlines Matthieu Theurier, new finance assistant.

Voted this Monday evening at the municipal council, the new pricing is intended to be “more united and equitable”, with a participation rate which will be calculated for each family according to its family quotient.

More winners than losers

As always, there will of course be winners and losers. But there are more winners, according to Matthieu Theurier, who estimates that “55% of Rennes families will see the price of the canteen drop” and “60% for the leisure center. » The new pricing system will also set a floor price at 30 euro cents for the lunch meal (compared to one euro previously) and a ceiling price at 6.90 euros (compared to 6.13 euros until now).

To help families see more clearly about their next bill, the city of Rennes has put online a price simulator. Another new feature for 2024 is that the invoice will also be sent monthly and no longer per period. Parents will therefore receive ten invoices next year compared to seven currently.
