The city sues 25 “dark stores” after they were requalified as warehouses

This is one of the consequences of the Council of State’s decision and the ensuing decree qualifying “dark stores”, those premises where everyday products are stored, delivered within a few minutes, as “warehouses”, within the meaning of urban planning code and the Parisian local urban plan. Following this victory, which proved him right in his fight against Frichti and Gorillas, the City of Paris is accelerating. Twenty-five of these “dark stores” have already been prosecuted.

“Dark stores are now prohibited from setting up in apartment buildings or commercial spaces. We have initiated procedures against 25 of them and will initiate new administrative penalties” in an amount capped at 250 euros per day, said Emmanuel Grégoire, first deputy to the socialist mayor (PS) Anne Hidalgo.

” Unfair competition “

This activity is criticized by many elected officials around the world who denounce pell-mell the creation of “warehouse cities”, nuisances for local residents, even a development of the “lazy economy”.

The Paris City Hall also criticizes “unfair competition” created by these fast delivery services, considered as “precariousness traps which are based on a totally fraudulent system”, according to the first deputy in charge of urban planning Emmanuel Grégoire.

A Burger King project targeted

In the same vein, the Paris City Hall is fighting against the “dark kitchens”, known as “ghost kitchens” which are setting up in Paris. A Burger King project in particular is in the city’s sights: the fast-food brand wants to set up in the 20th arrondissement with, however, only 20% of space dedicated to sales and 80% devoted to production. of dishes.

“To avoid its implementation, we have triggered what is called a stay of proceedings which allows the future PLU to be applied in advance, which will, I hope, prohibit the installation of ‘dark kitchens'”, said underlined Emmanuel Grégoire. In total, about 80 “dark stores” and dozens of “dark kitchens” are located in the capital.
