The city of Nice requests the withdrawal of the right to the terrace of two bars for this weekend

The day after France’s victory over Morocco in the semi-finals of the World Cup, Christian Estrosi wants to punish two bars on the Cours Saleya in Nice. According to the mayor of the city, these two establishments did not respect the prefectural decree in force for that evening and “installed screens and terraces in the public space, without any request or prior authorization”.

“Unacceptable” behavior

According to the elected official, these “unacceptable” behaviors gave rise to “unauthorized gatherings” and led to “excesses”. The city of Nice then decided to “immediately” initiate a procedure to withdraw their right to the terrace for the next and last two days of matches, this weekend. The community emphasizes the express nature of this request with regard to “the danger [que ces bars] endanger the safety of the inhabitants”.

Wednesday evening, after the match, several thousand people gathered in the city center in Nice and Cannes, said the prefecture of the Alpes-Maritimes. “The police used tear gas and fire from defense bullet launchers to disperse groups on Avenue Jean-Médecin where a few trash cans were set on fire,” state services said. In total, ten people were arrested throughout the department.
