The call for help from rural mayors to save bakers in trouble

The association of rural mayors of Gard has just sent a letter to the Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne, to discuss the situation of bakers in many municipalities of the department. “Many rural mayors alert our association to the very worrying situation of bakers and pastry chefs and an imminent danger of closure of these local shops”, explain the association and its president, Sylvain André, mayor also of Cendras, a small town of 1,856 inhabitants, located in the agglomeration of Alès.

The association asks that artisan bakers – already strongly affected by inflation – be able to benefit from the shield which limits the increase in the price of energy to 15%. “The ceiling set by the State limits electrical power to 36 kilovolt-amperes. Between the chamber and the oven, this power is largely exceeded”.

“An essential social bond for our villages”

“Our bakeries are often our last local shops, concludes the association of rural mayors of Gard. They play a much higher role: they are the soul of a village and allow this essential social bond”.
