The surprise: the Polish capital Warsaw came in first.
The city on the Vistula has a lot to offer. According to the website, travelers describe Warsaw as “beautiful, friendly, green and open-minded”. This makes it perfect for a city trip with family, friends or as a couple.
The next European capital comes in second: Athens.
Another surprise on the podium is the Slovenian city of Maribor in third place.
Places 4 and 5 go to Vienna and the Italian city of Cittadella.
Two German cities have also made it into the top 10 best travel destinations in Europe.
But it’s not Berlin, Cologne, Hamburg or Munich – Essen, a city in the Ruhr area, comes in sixth.
According to “European Best Destinations” Essen is “the most exciting big city you may not have heard of.”
The second German city is Mannheim in 10th place.
The city on the Neckar convinces as an “exciting adventure city” and inspires with the multicultural character of many districts.
