A few days ago, the Bavarian State Opera sent out a press release. It said that the opera “Matsukaze by Toshio Hosokawa, planned for the 2023 “Yes, May” festival, will be postponed by one year. In the festival, the State Opera dedicates itself to contemporary works, it takes place in addition to the normal repertoire. There are always shifts in the theater and opera business, but the reasoning is interesting: “The reason for this is the changed general framework and the associated budgetary risk.” Serge Dorny, Artistic Director of the Bavarian State Opera, added: “We are in a time of upheaval and have to deal with the resulting consequences, which create planning risks and make the implementation of theater and opera productions more difficult.”
